Piazza di San Marco // Italy
.
These city squares in Europe are from a time when the community would gather to see and be seen. They were the places where you would buy and sell your goods or host public events. It’s where the news was spread and where some of the staple businesses of the community were located.
.
These days, the squares are home to tourists and overpriced coffee. They still serve their purpose as meeting places, and if you care to venture out, you can find smaller city squares that are still used by locals. Quaint and quiet are these smaller central locations, and a place I love to visit.
Here’s a shot from the immensely crowded Piazza di San Marco in Venice. Sometimes, if you go at the right time, you can find some quiet corners, even in these larger squares.
