Cefalu // Sicily
I’ll confess that I’ve spent many evenings wishing I were back in this beautiful place. These incredible Tyrrhenian towns dotted along the coast share both the charm of the old world where they were born and the beauty of the paradise where they sit. The people are wonderful and the atmosphere is intoxicating.
Follow the ancient cobbled streets in Cefalu long enough and you’ll be met by the rocking blue sea. The breeze blows through the streets and you can’t help but feel something special.
I stayed here for a bit, making photos of the sea crashing onto the beach as the sun set. It was idyllic and moving. Warm sun rays sprayed across the edge of town and the cold water crashed. Once the sun was gone, it was time to walk the streets and mingle before dinner.
This italian tradition of strolling the streets is called the “passeggiata”, and is a time for everyone to dress up and socialize. They walk, and talk, stroll some more, stop in for a glass of wine, shop a little, and mingle even more. Eventually everyone lands at a long, late dinner. Italians often don’t start dinner until around 9PM, and it can last several hours.
