As humans, we’re drawn to so many different stimuli. As a photographer, I’m always searching for ways to use visual stimuli to draw the viewers eye to my image, and more specifically to the part of the image I specify. Sometimes, we work with composition to make the eye go on a bit of a tour of the image. I want you to look here, then here, then over here.
If there was no darkness, we wouldn’t appreciate the beautiful light.
Simple compositions, or arrangements, of elements in a photograph are quite effective in drawing the eye. there may only be a single point of focal interest in the image, and therefore your eye really has no choice but to notice.
I keep an eye out for images like these. Even amongst chaos, I’m always looking for extremely simple compositions. The subject of the photograph can show itself in many ways. It can be the lone interest in a sea of texture or lack of texture. Moments of solace in a sometimes extremely turbulent environment.
Practice and focus is the key to finding them. You really have to remember that the field of view is constrained to what you can see in the viewfinder. There may be a busy interstate behind you with trucks barreling through at 75MPH, but the composition in your camera will bring none of that with it. I’m trying to get better with seeing these little mini landscapes.
